Owens, Roberts L., Mrs. (Geneva (Oleta) Henegar)

Funeral services for Geneva "Oleta" Owens, 74, will be at 2 p.m. Friday in First Assembly of God Church with the Rev. Randy Santiago, pastor, the Rev. Gary Page of Dallas and Manuel Rodriguez officiating.

Burial will be in Parklawn Memorial Gardens by Bartley-Silva Funeral Home.

Mrs. Owens died at 8:49 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2003, in Covenant Hospital Lubbock.

She was born Sept. 10, 1929, in Plainview, the daughter of the late Lester and Almeria Henegar. She sang in area churches with a girls quartet as a teen. She had a radio program on Saturday afternoons on KVOP Radio when it first began broadcasting. She was an announcer many times for the Assembly of God radio program, which ran from 1945-79.

On March 11, 1945, she married Robert L. Owens in Plainview.

She and her husband pastored churches in Lorenzo, El Paso and Hale Center. She taught Sunday school classes from juniors to older women. She was a homemaker and had lived in Columbus, Ga., until her husband was discharged from the military and they returned to Plainview.

She enjoyed growing flowers, collecting angel figurines and refinishing old furniture.

Survivors inlcude her husband: two sons and daughters-in-law, Noland and Jo Owens of Raleigh, N.C., and Lowell and Jan Owens of Lubbock; two daughters and a son-in-law, Nuvadell Baker of Lubbock and Sherita and Mike Hatch of Plainview; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Charles and Joyce Henegar and Edward "Eddie" L. and Helen Henegar, all of Plainview, and Anthony "Tony" and Lucielle Henegar of Tucumcari, N.M.; and two sisters, Lola Carter of Plainview and Mamell Armstrong of Clovis, N.M.

A sister, Lena Thompson, is deceased.
