Obituary

Graveside services for Joe Olivares, 85, of Abernathy will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Abernathy Cemetery with the Rev. Joe Olivares Jr. officiating.

Arrangements are under the direction of Abell Funeral Home of Abernathy.

He died Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2000, at his home.

He was born Jan. 29, 1915, in Corpus Christi. He married Mary Lucio on May 25, 1943, in Corpus Christi. He moved his family to Abernathy in 1966 from Shallowater. He was a farmer prior to his retirement.

A son, Jimmy, died in April 1979.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Joe of Corpus Christi and Lee of Yuma, Ariz.; two daughters, Julia Jara of Lubbock and Tillie Vega of Abernathy; a brother, Doro of Denver, Colo.; 12 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
