Obituary

Leonard S. Noel, 82, of Plainview, Texas, passed away on Thursday, March 27, 2008 at the Lubbock Heart Hospital with his wife Alice by his side. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, March 31, 2008, at St. Alice Catholic Church with Father Jim McCartney officiating. Burial will follow in Plainview Memorial Park under the direction of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview, Texas. Leonard was born on Jan. 24, 1926, in Plainview, Texas, to Walter and Numa Noel. He grew up in the Bellview community and attended schools there and in Plainview. He graduated from Plainview High School in 1944. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He met and married Alice McIvor on April 17, 1948. When they returned home, Leonard engaged in farming. He instilled his love and passion of farming in his two sons, Jeffery and Greg. The family formed Noel and Sons and have strived to stay on the cutting edge of the advances in farming technology throughout the years. Leonard's love of all aspects of the agriculture industry kept him involved without considering retirement. He was also very active in the community. He took great pride in serving on the Petersburg ISD School Board. He was also very active in many other activities that his sons participated in. He was a member of St. Alice Catholic Church where he served as an usher. Leonard was also a member of The Elks Lodge #1175. Survivors include his wife, Alice Noel of Plainview; two sons, Jeffery Noel of Plainview and Greg Noel and wife Donna of Plainview; two grandchildren, Rachael Noel of Lubbock and Misti Fisher of Midland; two great-grandsons, Miles and Mitchel Fisher of Midland; five brothers, Leon, Edward and Alvin, all of Plainview, Howard of Virginia and Don of Odessa; three sisters, Elouise Pennington of North Richland Hills, Neva Stallings of Troy and Katherine Ivey of Lubbock; and numerous nieces and nephews. A visitation will be held on Sunday evening at 6 p.m. followed by a rosary at 7 p.m. at Kornerstone Funeral Directors. The family suggests memorials to the American Heart Association in honor of the Lubbock Heart Hospital and in memory of Leonard Noel, 2514 82nd Street, Suite B, Lubbock, TX 79423; or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
