Obituary

Funeral services for Arville C. Nivens, 77, were at 2:30 p.m. today in First United Methodist Church with Silas Short, minister of the Church of Christ in Throckmorton, and Dr. Max Browning, pastor, officiating. Burial was in Parklawn Memorial Gardens by Wood-Dunning Funeral home. Mr. Nivens died Sunday, Nov. 18, 2001, in Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock. He was born Feb. 28, 1924, in Alvord. He grew up in Hale Center and attended school in the Stoneback Community. He was a farmer, retiring in 1981. He moved to Plainview and in 1982 became involved in the sale of agriculture seed. He was a member of the BPO Elks Lodge #1175, on the board of directors of Farmers Gin in Hale Center and a member of Hale Center Church of Christ. On June 23, 1978, he married Sherwyn Lynn Fyffe in Floydada. Survivors include his wife; a son and daughter-in-law, Danny and Dawn Nivens of Lubbock; two daughters and a son-in-law, Carla and Gary Gray of Dumas and Debby Evans of McLean; two stepdaughters and a stepson-in-law, Shawn and Gary Pate of Lubbock and Shelby Shurbet of Plainview; eight grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. The family suggests memorials to the Texas Elks Children?s Fund Inc., 1963 FM 1586, Gonzales, TX 78629 or to a favorite charity.
