Obituary
Dale W. Newton, 78, of Plainview passed away on Monday, May 26, 2014, in Plainview. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 29, 2014, with Chaplain Oscar Chavez officiating. Arrangements are under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. A family visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Dale was born Oct. 13, 1935, in Hamilton County, Texas, to Jethro G. and Lucille Williams Newton. He grew up in Plainview and graduated from Plainview High School in 1954. He entered the U.S. Marine Corps in June after graduation. In 1956 he returned to Plainview, where he met his future wife, Rondelle Carter. They were married on Nov. 23, 1957. After graduating from Wayland, Dale farmed, and three children came into their lives. In 1966 the family moved to northern Arizona. Dale completed his master's degree at Northern Arizona University and was busy teaching and coaching Navajo children. The family grew in size with the birth of another son and the adoption of three other children. He became superintendent of schools in Sanders, Ariz. After 21 years, Dale and Rondelle returned to Plainview and had time to spend with children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His greatest pleasure was to watch them grow, attend their sporting events and have family gatherings. He never met a stranger; he loved life, his family and his Lord. We will miss him and are so proud he was our husband, father and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jethro and Lucille Newton; his son, Gary Newton; grandson, Colby Newton; and brother, Jacky Newton. He is survived by his wife, Rondelle Newton of Plainview; three daughters, Debra Chandler of Plainview, Dana Wong and husband Mike of Hale Center, and D'Anna Margel and husband Paul of Washington D.C.; three sons, Douglas Newton and wife Mary of Hale Center, Darren Newton and wife Sharon of Shallowater, Texas, and Derek Newton of Plainview; seven grandchildren, Amanda Schupbach and husband Mitch, Christopher Chandler, Megan Brown and husband Marc, Danielle Duffield and husband T.J., Michelle Harre and husband Michael, Kayla Newton, and Brady Newton; and six great-grandchildren, Kerstin and Kolton Schupbach, Harley Brown, Jayti and Jentri Duffield and Elly Harre. Memorials may be made to Cal Farley's Boys Ranch, P.O. Box 1890, Amarillo, TX 79174.
