Obituary

Funeral services for Herman Edward Nelson, 73, will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Ninth and Columbia Street Church of Christ with Wayne Horton, minister of Cactus Drive Church of Christ in Levelland; Colquitt Nash, minister, and Jim Thompson, an elder, officiating. Burial will be in Parklawn Memorial Gardens by Wood-Dunning Funeral Home. Mr. Nelson died at 11:40 p.m. June 24, 2004. He was born June 12, 1931, in Quanah. He graduated from Lockney High School in 1948 and had lived in Anton, Lubbock and Amarillo before moving to Plainview in July of 1961. He was a salesman and retired from Becker Wholesale Co., in 2000. He also had driven a school bus for Laidlaw Bus Co., for 3 1/2 years. On Aug. 19, 1950, he married Ruth Anne Pratt in Childress. Survivors include his wife; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon Sue and Butch Brewer of Park Hills, Mo., and Julie Ann and Monty Bowen of Plainview; a son and daughter-in-law, Glenn David and Cindy Nelson of Odessa; two brothers, George Nelson and Wayne Nelson, both of Kenner, La.; a sister and brother-in-law, Betty Jo and Jim Sealy of Odessa; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. The family will receive visitors from 6:30-8 p.m. today in Fellowship Center at the church. They suggest memorials to the youth ministry at the church or to a favorite charity.
