Obituary

Services for Kerry G. Neis, 31, of Enterprise, Ala., will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Luke's United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ted Dotts officiating.

Burial will be in Abernathy Cemetery under direction of Rix Funeral Directors.

He died Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2002.

He was born June 14, 1971, in Waco. He became an Eagle Scout while attending Monterey High School and was involved with St. John's United Methodist Church.

He graduated from McMurry University and enlisted in the U.S. Army as a firefighter, receiving his training at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., and Goodfellow Air Force Base. He had served tours of duty at Fort Greely, Alaska, and Fort Rucker, Ala.

He earned the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal, two Good Conduct medals, the National Defense Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon and the Army Superior Service Award. He worked for the Enterprise Fire Department prior to joining the Fort Rucker Fire Department.

He married Katherine Rippy on June 5, 1993, in Borger.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Sarah; his mother and stepfather, Jo Ann and Barry Smith of Lubbock; his father and stepmother, Reggie and Monica Neis of Belton; his grandmothers, Clara Neis of Petersburg, Martha Jo Boren of Lubbock and Theda Smith of Levelland; a sister, Karen Phillips of Lubbock; three stepsisters, Shawna Lockhar of Hurst, Melissa Harrell of Lubbock and Melinda Whitehead of Sherman; and a stepbrother, Paul Jones of Belton.
