Obituary

Dorma Neel, 74, of Hale Center, Texas, passed away Sunday, June 15, 2008, at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 17, 2008, at First Baptist Church in Hale Center with the Rev. Carrol Green officiating. Burial will follow in Plainview Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview, Texas. Dorma was born Jan. 6, 1934, to Dorman and Eugenia Clanton in Plainview. She grew up in Plainview and in Channing and graduated from Channing High School. She attended West Texas State University. She worked in Amarillo before marrying John Hazel. They moved to Plainview in 1963. John preceded her in death in 1976. She married Coney Neel on July 12, 1981, in Plainview. She worked for the Hale County Sheriff's Dept. and was instrumental in the formation of the 911 Emergency System in Hale County. She retired in 1998. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Hale Center and of the Eastern Star. Survivors include her husband, Coney Neel of Hale Center; two daughters, Sheryl Cummings and her husband, Larry, of Plainview and Cindy Borchardt of Plainview; one son, Jerry Hazel and wife, Kaylene, of Plainview; one stepson, Rex Neel of Granbury; 11 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. A visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Monday evening at Kornerstone Funeral Directors.
