Obituary

A funeral service celebrating the life of Brynn Joel Naylor, 21, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 22, 2007, at First Baptist Church in Shallowater with the Rev. Mitch Wilson officiating. Burial will follow at Plainview Memorial Park in Plainview under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home in Lubbock. Brynn was born in Roswell, N.M., on Dec. 2, 1986. He grew up in Shallowater and graduated from Goddard High School in Roswell. He enjoyed tennis and snowboarding. Brynn died in combat on Thursday, Dec. 13, 2007, while serving in the 2nd Battalion, 12th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, and 2nd Infantry Division in the United States Army. He was stationed in Baghdad, Iraq, when his unit came under small-arms fire, according to the U.S. Defense Department. Brynn is survived by his mother, D'Ann McGuire, and stepfather, Robert McGuire of Shallowater; his father, Ross Naylor of Roswell; a brother, James McGuire of Shallowater; sisters Kelsey Naylor of Roswell and Mica McGuire of Shallowater; grandparents, Robert and Sue Naylor of Roswell, Lynn McMennamy of Plainview and Carlton and Theron Tanner of Lubbock; aunts and uncles, Deedra and Gary Boyles, Rhetta McGuire, Scott and Kristi Naylor and John and Marilyn Naylor; numerous cousins, family and friends. Brynn was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Melvin McMennamy. The family asks that donations be made to the Brynn Naylor Memorial Fund at Peoples Bank of Shallowater. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. Friday.
