Obituary

Funeral services for Ralph A. Nafzger, 87, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in St. Paul Lutheran Church with the Rev. Gerald Boerger, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Plainview Memorial Park by Wood-Dunning Funeral Home. Mr. Nafzger died at 6:40 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2001, in Covenant Hospital. He was born March 20, 1914, in Olton where he grew up and graduated from high school in 1934. He was a stockman and raised show horses. He moved to Plainview in 1946 and back to Olton in 1996. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and a longtime member of the National Rifle Association. On Aug. 2, 1937, he married Esther Caroline Gaertner in Malone. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Samuel Henry Nafzger of St. Louis, Mo., Carroll Wayne Nafzger of Glen Ellyn, Ill., and Larry Don Nafzger of Plainview; a sister, Lily Krugler of Giddings; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A daughter, Sylvia Marie Nafzger Foy, died in 2001; a son, Ralph Adolph Nafzger Jr., died in July 1950; and three brothers, Arthur Nafzger, William Nafzger and Paul Nafzger, and two sisters, Margaret Fent and Esther Springer, are deceased. The family suggests memorials to the Lutheran Hour or to Concordia College in Austin.
