Obituary

Gerrie Mote, 83, of Plainview passed away Monday, Dec. 13, 2010, in Lubbock. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 16, 2010, at First United Methodist Church with her brother, the Rev. Kenneth Rodgers, officiating and the Rev. Jeff Taylor assisting. A private family burial will be held prior to the memorial service. A visitation will be held from 6:30-8 p.m. today, Wednesday evening, at the funeral home. Gerrie was born Oct. 27, 1927, in Plainview, Texas, to Virgil and Johnnie Rodgers. She grew up in Plainview and graduated from Plainview High School in 1946. She graduated from the University of Texas in 1951. She married Robert "Bob" Mote on July 27, 1951. She taught school for a few years before starting their family. She returned years later and was a physical education teacher at Coronado Junior High for 25 years before retiring in 1985. She was a member of First United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Hand in Hand Sunday School Class, leader of a walking class and weekly volunteer in the church office. She also was a member of the Gladys Carter Circle, serving as president, Gamma Delphin Study Club, Senior Saints and Chapter CZ PEO. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob; her parents, Virgil and Johnnie Rodgers; and brothers, Wilburn Rodgers and V.R. Rodgers Jr. Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Marca and Bill Morris of Lazbuddie and Melissa and Kent Ferguson of Austin; two brothers, Kenneth Rodgers of Kenoza Lake, N.Y., and Sidney Rodgers of Plainview; two sisters, Vivian Smith of El Paso and Wanda Carter of Plainview; six grandchildren, Cade Morris, Kia Barr, Kolten Morris, Wade Ferguson, Matt Ferguson and Avery Ferguson; three great-grandchildren; and many loving nieces and nephews.
