Obituary

Dorothy Morton, 86 of Edmonson, passed away on Friday, Feb. 7, 2014, in Olton. Funerals services will be held at 4 p.m. Monday, Feb. 10, 2014, at First Baptist Church in Edmonson with Mr. Rush Coffman officiating. Burial will follow in Parklawn Memorial Gardens under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. until service time on Monday, Feb. 10, 2014, at the church. Dorothy Morton was born on March 2, 1927, in Bailey County to Carl Evans and Mary Marsh Evans. She was the fifth of seven daughters, and they worked as hard in the fields as any boy during that time. She graduated from Farwell High School in 1946 and married Melvin Morton on Nov. 1, 1947. They made their home in Hale County and resided in Edmonson for 61 years. She spent a few years as a telephone operator until becoming the Postmaster at Edmonson in 1953. She retired after 36 years. She was a member of the Edmonson Fire Auxiliary, Northwest Home Demonstration Club and a founder of the Running Water-Edmonson Reunion. She was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church in Edmonson. She was a volunteer for the Faith in Sharing House in Plainview and was on the steering committee for the Veterans' Memorial in Plainview. She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters and husband. She is survived by one son, Randy Morton and Rhonda of Plainview; two daughters, Marsha Vail of Edmonson and Cindy Chapman of Hale Center; eight grandchildren, Joseph and Marilyn Vail, Kristal and Derek Daniel, Kayla and Sky Beasley, and Karla Morton all of Plainview, Chris Chapman of Hale Center, Matt Vail of Lubbock , Shay and Travis Butler of Morton, and April and James Dominie of Edmonson; 12 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
