Obituary

R.G. Morris, 86, of Petersburg passed away Saturday, July 9, 2011, in Lubbock. Funeral services were at 10 a.m. today, July 12, 2011, at First United Methodist Church in Petersburg with the Rev. John Blythe officiating. Interment followed in Petersburg Cemetery under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. Visitation for family and friends was from 7:30-8:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Mr. Morris was born March 10, 1925, in Matador to Robert and Minnie Morris. He grew up and attended schools in Flomot. He married Twila Sanders on July 31, 1946, in Lockney. Mr. Morris was drafted into the U.S. Army during WWII. He served in the 69th Division overseas in Germany and France. He returned home after the war and began farming. He moved to Petersburg in 1953 and continued farming for all these years. Mr. Morris loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed working with wood and metal and made spurs and metal art. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Petersburg, Odd Fellows Lodge, Runningwater Draw RSVP in Plainview and Senior Citizens. He was named Petersburg Citizen of the Year. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister. Mr. Morris is survived by his wife, Twila Morris of Petersburg; three sons and daughters-in-law, Jack and Linda Morris of Plainview, Roger and Liz Morris of Graham and Vinoka and Melanie Morris of Petersburg; one sister and brother-in-law, Ruby and Homer Owen of Waco; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
