Mrs. Moore died Wednesday, December 4, 2013 in her home surrounded by her children and loved ones.

Cindy was a lady that loved the Lord. She was a member of Northside Bapist Church and regularly attended services there. She loved singing praises of her Lord and learning about the Bible and Jesus Christ. She had an innate, natural bond with animals of many different species. She loved butterflies, flowerbeds and country crafts.

Cindy Jean Garvin was born to her late parents, Robert Eugene (Gene) Garvin and Juanda Ruth Parrack on August 28, 1950 at West Texas Hospital in Lubbock. She, along with her sister, Julie, was reared in West Texas, but also lived in Roswell, N. M, and Enterprise, Alabama in her childhood years. Cindy moved in with her paternal grandparents, the late Robert and Francis Garvin, of Abernathy, during her fourth year in school and continued living with them until she graduated Abernathy High School in May 1968.

While in high school, she was active in the band and was selected as a cheerleader. She continued to be a cheerleader for various noble causes for the rest of her life. She was active in the American Association of Sheriff?s Posses and Riding Clubs and was crowned Queen of that organization in 1968. During her reign, she traveled extensively throughout the United States and performed at many parades and rodeos as a diplomat of good will, advancing the public?s interest in riding and horsemanship.

Upon graduation from Abernathy High School, she attended American Business College in Lubbock. During her first marriage, she gave birth to William Robert (Will) Calfin on January 18, 1972.

Cindy was employed as a dental assistant by several local dentists. She had a stroke in 1975, at the age of 24 and was paralyzed on the right side of her body and had severe physical and cognitive deficits after the stroke. Because of the stroke, Cindy was left unable to even write her name for five years, but intensive therapy and determination helped her triumph over many of her deficits and to encourage other stroke victims. She worked at Anthony?s clothing store and was almost a permanent fixture at Furr?s Pie Kitchen, where she drank coffee and made many, many friends.

Cindy was re-married in 1976 and gave birth to a daughter, Amanda Jean Leonard, on September 10, 1979.

While Cindy continued to fight for her recovery, she became more focused on her religious life, and performed volunteer work. During her life span, she donated more than 200 pints of blood to United Blood Services and volunteered for 8 years as a ?Pink Lady? at Methodist Hospital in Lubbock. She also volunteered on the task force with the American Heart Association. She was a former chairperson of Neighborhood Watch and volunteered at Habitat for Humanity?s Restore (resale store).

One of her fondest memories was when her yard was selected for Tech Terrace Unit?s Yard of the Month, in 2002, a testament to her love of flowerbeds and the outdoors. Her favorite sayings were ?Look up,? ?Let God be your conscience,? and ?Pick your friends wisely,? edicts she lived by daily.

Cindy married Dana Moore June 13, 1993 in Abernathy. They were able to tour much of the United States together in their motorhome.

Cindy leaves behind her husband, Dana Moore, a son, Will Calfin and his wife Melanie of Lubbock, a daughter; Amanda Leonard and future son-in-law Travis Thorpe of Lubbock, two sisters, Julie Kelly of Denton, TX and Tammy Buckles of Alvarado TX, and six grandchildren, Derek, Daxx and Dallan , Jordyn, Jaida and Piper all of Lubbock.

She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Addisyn Lynn Calfin. She will be greatly missed by Lady and Li?l Boy, her late miniature Schnauzers.

The family suggests donations to Northside Baptist Church in Abernathy, TX, Joe Arrington Cancer Center, of Lubbock, or to Hospice Of Lubbock. The family wishes to thank Dr. Donald Quick, of JACC, Dr. Cloyce Stetson, of TTUHSC and Dr. Jeremy Brown of Hospice of Lubbock.TTUHSC
