Verda Marie Moody of Plainview passed away Oct. 18, 2015. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2015, in the Chapel at the First United Methodist Church in Plainview with Dr. Max Browning officiating and the Rev. Jeff Taylor assisting. Burial will follow at the Plainview Memorial Park under the direction of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. The family will gather to receive friends from 5-6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2015, at Kornerstone Funeral Directors, 3605 SW Third St. in Plainview, Texas (exit 48 off I-27). Marie was born Aug. 4, 1928, in Hale Center, Texas, to the late William Tulley Ross and Lettie Maud (Warren) Ross. Marie married Johnny Cornell Moody on Jan. 5, 1957, in Clovis, New Mexico. Johnny passed away Jan. 29, 1989. Marie was employed for 35 years by Southwestern Bell Telephone Company. She was a lifetime member of the Telephone Pioneers'. Marie was a craftsman and was one of the first three women nationwide to have this position. She was active member of the First United Methodist Church where she was also a member of the Harmony Sunday School Class and Iva Wheeler Circle. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, her son Gary Norman Bennett, son-in-law Tim Skaggs, grandson Chris Robertson, a sister Norma Faye (Ross) Walls, and a brother Raymond Clayton Ross. She is survived by two daughters, Kaye Robertson and husband Carl of Lubbock, Texas, and Suzy Skaggs of Hale Center, Texas; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, one nephew and three nieces. The family suggests memorials to the First United Methodist Church, 1001 W. Seventh St., Plainview, TX 79072.
