Funeral services for C.E. Monroe, 80, will be at 2p.m. Saturday in Lemons Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Jack Houston officiating.
Burial will be in Parklawn Memorial Gardens by Lemons Funeral Home.
Mr. Monroe died at 2:05 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 5 2002, at his residence.
He was born Oct. 9, 1921, in Byars. He grew up in Hedley where he attended schools and also in the Cousins community North West of Plainview in 1937 he joined the U.S. Army in 1942 and was an anti-aircraft gunner. He returned to Hale County and farmed with Monroe Brothers northwest of Plainview.
He was a member of Finney Baptist Church.
On July 1, 1960, he married Dorothy Rullie in Plainview.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Angela Monroe of Palm Dale, Calif., and Toka Ray Hamlett of Lubbock; three sons, Bobby Monroe, Carroll Monroe Jr., and Alan Lee Monroe, all of Plainview; four sisters, Opel Messer of Clarendon, Mary Keisling Dumas, Doris Evelynn Morgan of Plainview and JoAnn Felder of Sunray; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Two brothers, Elizie and Donald Max Monroe, are deceased.
