Mitchell, Loyd Ross

Funeral services for Loyd Ross Mitchell, 69, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in First Baptist Church with Dr. Travis Hart, pastor, officiating.

Burial will be in Plainview Memorial Park by Lemons Funeral Home.

Mr. Mitchell died at 1:32 a.m. Tuesday, March 6, 2001, in University Medical Center in Lubbock.

He was born June 7, 1931, in Telephone, TX. He grew up in Bonham and moved to Plainview in 1944 and attended school. He started work with Southwestern Public Service in 1949. He left in 1953 to serve with the U.S. Army for two years, stationed in Okinawa. He returned to Plainview and continued to work for Southwestern Public Service. He was general foreman of the line department. He retired after 45 years as general foreman of systems construction, which covered from Amarillo area south.

After retirement, he purchased 10 acres of land off Southwest Third where he spent his leisure time. He also did contract inspections for Precision Resources out of Amarillo.

He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

On March 11, 1955, he married Chrystelle Cox in Clovis, N.M.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Cardelia Jones of Guymon, Okla., and Marci Beck of Benton, La.; one brother, J.B. Mitchell of Levelland; a sister, Hazel Nicholas of Lexington, Ky.; and four grandchildren.
