Obituary

Ernesto Mitchell passed away on Feb. 23, 2013, after years of kidney failure. Ernesto was a resident of Espa?ola, N.M., for 25 years. He was the youngest son born to Marcelino and Manuelita Mitchell in Plainview on June 19, 1951. Ernesto was preceded in death by his parents, Marcelino and Manuelita Mitchell of Plainview, and two brothers, Manuel Mitchell of Plainview and Gavino Mitchell of Depue, Ill. He is survived by five brothers, Lucario Mitchell of Lubbock; Benito and Ruth Mitchell of Burtram, Texas; Hilario and Sheila Mitchell of Bakersfield, Calif.; Eloy and Juanita Mitchell of Tucumcari, N.M.; and Samuel Mitchell of Masquero, N.M.; six sisters, Ramoncita Escalante of Plainview; Erma Hernandez of Hereford; Carmen Vera of Plainview; Pasquala and Cruz Martinez of La Mesilla; Margaret Eggert of Espa?ola, N.M.; and Victoria and Edward Sandoval of Albuquerque, N.M. Ernesto is also survived by the only love of his life, Emma Vasquez of Plainview, and many nieces and nephews and neighbors. Ernesto was a professional sheet-rocker by trade. He was an avid reader, he loved music, going to the movies, playing the guitar and visiting with all his nephews and nieces. Ernesto made a deep impression on people he met. Ernesto attended schools in Plainview, Northern Community College in Espa?ola and Highlands University in Espa?ola. He earned an associate degree in social work and enrolled to attain a master's degree in psychology, but was unable to attain it due to his illness. Ernesto was dearly loved and will be missed by all who knew him. Ernesto attended Vally Bible Baptist Church in Arroyo Seco. A memorial service was held at Valley Bible Baptist Church in Arroyo Seco at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, with Pastor Brian McMath officiating the service. The Mitchell family would like to extend their thanks and gratitude to the Ambercare staff for their gracious care provided, and all family and friends who patiently stood by his side.
