Obituary

Don K. Mires, 75, of Plainview passed away Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2008, at his residence. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 19, 2008, in the First Baptist Church sanctuary with the Rev. Jim Ritter, pastor of Seth Ward Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will follow in Parklawn Memorial Gardens under the direction of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. Don was born March 29, 1933, in O'Donnell, Texas, to Delbert and Sybil Mires. He grew up in O'Donnell and graduated from high school in 1950. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. After his service he returned home and farmed in Plainview. He worked for a gin as a general hand since he was 17. He served as gin manager at L&B Quarter Way Gin from 1968-73. They moved to Brownfield and dryland farmed for two years. They returned to Plainview and farmed and were partners in the Donut Chef. In 1978, he managed Tule Creek Gin in Tulia for two years and then Lesley Co-op in Lesley, Texas, for 10 years. They moved to Seagraves in 1988 and managed the gin there before coming back to Plainview to farm for the last 10 years. He married Gloria Woodard on March 29, 1960, in Plainview, Texas. Survivors include his wife, Gloria Mires of Plainview; three children, Tina Morgan and her husband, Gary, of Plainview, Darrell Mires and his wife, Kim, of Kress, and Koree Mires and his wife, Kelly, of Allen; two brothers, Ralph Mires of Waco and Roy Mires of Keller; one sister, Leta Hatch of Plainview; and nine grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Dwaine Mires and Harold Mires; and one sister, Glenna Harris.
