Obituary

Funeral services for Frances Juanita Mills, 89, will be at 2:30 p.m. today in First United Methodist Church with Mike Motheral and the Rev. Jerry Don Cheshire officiating. Burial will be in the Abernathy Cemetery by Abell Funeral Home of Abernathy. Mrs. Mills died Friday, July 29, 2005, at the Garrison Center in Lubbock. She was born Dec. 16, 1915, in Alford, to Luther and Mellie Shipman Thompson. Mrs. Mills graduated from Munday High School in 1933 and married J.C. Mills in Munday on Jan. 11, 1936. They lived in Munday and Odessa prior to moving to Abernathy in 1942, where they farmed and ranched for 63 years. Mrs. Mills was a member of the Abernathy First United Methodist Church, Abernathy Senior Citizens and president of Plains Grain, Inc. She was a former member of the 1935 Study Club, Abernathy Garden Club, charter member of the Lubbock Cowbelles Association and the Lubbock Women's Club. She was preceded in death by her husband, J.C. Mills, in 1999; her son, Jim Mills, in 2002; and two grandsons, Whit Coxon and Brent Coxon. Survivors include two daughters, Pat Baker and husband, Robert, of Idalou and Shirley Coxon of Lubbock; daughter-in-law Frankie Mills of Abernathy; five grandchildren, Jenna Wolcott and husband Randy of Lubbock, Kelly Mills and wife Glenda of Abernathy, Stacey Mills and wife Tia of Carlsbad, N.M., Clay Baker of Dallas and Lori Houston and husband Rick of Abernathy; 10 great-grandchildren, Brett and Joey Longley and Tanner Mills of Lubbock, Kyle and K'Lea Mills, Bailey and Luke Houston of Abernathy, Tegan, Cutter and Carson, of Carlsbad, N.M.; a sister, Billie Fern and husband Donald Motheral of Kress; two sisters-in-law, Geneva Bailey of Plainview and Helen Mills of Levelland and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Our many thanks to Dr. Chanda Dihenia and Dr. Jeff Headrick for the love and care given to our Mother and Mamaw. The family received friends at Abell Funeral Home from 7-8 p.m. Saturday, July 30, 2005. The family suggests memorials be sent to the Abernathy Cemetery, c/o First State Bank, P.O.
