Obituary

Funeral services for Elvie Cook Miller, 99, of Plainview, Texas, will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 29, 2007, in the Chapel of First Baptist Church in Plainview, Texas, with Dr. Travis Hart, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Plainview Memorial Park under the direction of Wood Dunning Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. Sunday at Wood Dunning Funeral Home. She passed away Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2007, in Lubbock, Texas. Mrs. Miller was born Aug. 19, 1908, in Tucumcari, N.M., the daughter of Harvey and Fannie Mae Cook. She graduated from Lockney High School. On March 16, 1931, she married James M. Miller in Lawton, Okla., with whom she shared 71 years of marriage. The couple lived in Lockney until 1942, moving to Vernon for two years. Her home was Plainview for the past 65 years. She was a homemaker, artist and bookkeeper at Miller Flying Service for many years. Mrs. Miller was a member of First Baptist Church in Plainview where she helped with Sunday school classes. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, arts and crafts, bird watching and reading. She loved her family and flowers, especially roses. Survivors include her son, C. Wayne and wife Pat Miller of Houston, Texas; two daughters, Jan and husband Alfred Cornebise of Greeley, Colo., and Kay and husband Noble Koepp of Lubbock, Texas; her sister, Faye Ferguson of Waco, Texas; 10 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. She was proceeded in death by her parents, Harvey and Fannie Mae Cook; her husband, James M. Miller; her son, Marlin R. Miller; and her brothers, Syphel L., T Norvel, Carlton R. and Ruel R. Cook. Contributions may be made to the Marlin Miller Scholarship Fund at Wayland Baptist University.
