Obituary

Charlie Jay Mickey, 56, of Katy, Texas, passed away Tuesday, June 8, 2010. He was born Aug. 27, 1953, in Plainview to Dale and Estelle Lobstein Mickey. As a youngster, Charlie was an Eagle Scout and graduated from Plainview High School. In 1975, he graduated from Texas Tech University with a B.S. degree in mathematics. For thirty years Charles worked for Texaco Oil Co. both in New Orleans, LA and in Houston, and for the last five years he has worked for Marathon Oil Co. Charlie had an adventurous spirit and a gentle nature. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed scuba diving. He will be greatly missed by those who loved him, and by those whose lives he touched. Charlie was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife of thirty-four years Libby; daughter, Amber Mickey; brothers, Everitt Mickey and his wife Dot of Austin, Texas, and Gilmer Mickey and his wife Vernetta of Denver, Colorado; sisters, Janet Covert and her husband Robert of Terrell, Texas, and Betsy Young of Carrollton, Texas; sister-in-law, Kathy Hooper and her husband Aubrey of Halfway, Texas; and numerous other relatives and friends. Graveside Services will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, June 14, 2010, at Parklawn Memorial Gardens, Plainview. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in Charlie's memory be made to Lifeline Chaplaincy Houston @www.lifelinechaplaincy.org.
