Obituary

Funeral services for Katherine Merriman, 93, of Canyon, formerly of Plainview, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Bartley Memorial Chapel. Burial will be in Plainview Memorial Park, beside her husband of 63 years, Doyn. Services are under the direction of Bartley Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Mrs. Merriman died Thursday, April 21, 2011, at Skywest Assisted Living in Canyon. She was born Dec. 5, 1917, in Lakeview, Texas, to W.P. and Bertie Shelly. She married Doyn Merriman on Sept. 4, 1937, in Clovis, N.M. He died July 14, 2000. She taught elementary education for many years in Hale Center and Plainview. She was a Christian and a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Plainview where she also taught Sunday school. Survivors include three sons, Dale Merriman and his wife, Monette, of Canyon, Gary Merriman and his wife, Valerie Job, of Lubbock and Allen Merriman of Houston; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Her husband; parents; and three sisters are deceased. Pallbearers will be her grandsons: Randy Merriman, Mike McCandless, Allen Merriman, Lane Turner, Leslie McCandless; and family friend, Delton Waggoner.
