Obituary

Services for Maria Mendez, 69, of Plainview will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at San Juan Methodist Church with the Rev. David Blanco officiating. Burial will follow at Plainview Cemetery by Lemons Funeral Home. Mrs. Mendez died Wednesday, April 13, 2005, at University Medical Center in Lubbock. She was born April 28, 1935, in York Town, Texas, to Gavino and Claudina Estrada. She married Antonio Mendez in 1962 in Lamesa, Texas. She is survived by her husband, Antonio Mendez of the home; four daughters, Sylvia and Marcelo Barboza of Santa Fe, N.M., Rosa and Abel Ocegueda of Plainview, Maria and Solomon Gutierrez of Weslaco, Nora and Lolo Espinoza of Plainview; one son and daughter-in-law, Jose Luis and Jelasia Mendez of Plainview; one brother and sister-in-law, Enrique and Antonia Corpus of Apple Valley, Calif.; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Rosa and Jose Rivera of Big Spring, and Sofia Cerna of Anterio, Calif.; 15 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. One brother, Samuel Corpus, and one sister, Georgia Garza, are deceased. Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m today and Friday at San Juan Methodist Church. Plainview Daily Herald -- April 14, 2005
