Meek, Marvin D.
Funeral for Marvin D. Meek, 52, of Aztec, N.M., will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Parkview Baptist Church with the Rev. Ted Wilson, pastor of First Methodist Church in Petersburg, officiating.
Burial will be in Plainview Memorial Park by Lemons Funeral Home.
Mr. Meek died at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 20, 2001 in San Juan Regional Medical Center in Farmington, N.M.
He was born Sept. 20, 1948, in Crosbyton. He grew up in Plainview and graduated from Plainview High School in 1967. He graduated from Texas Tech University in 1972 with a degree in animal science. He sold animal health products for Friona industries from 1972 to 1975 and farmed in the Plainview area for 12 years. He moved to New Mexico and farmed on the Navajo Reservation from 1988 to 1991. For the past eight years, he and his wife sold produce nationwide.
He had been active in 4-H while in high school, was president of the Block and Bridle Club at Texas Tech where he also was a member of the livestock judging teams.
He was the first national chairman of the American Agriculture Movement serving from 1979 to 1982. During that time he lived in Washington D.C., where he lobbied for farmers. He was instrumental in organizing the national tractorcade into Washington D.C. in 1979.
He was a member of First Baptist Church in Aztec.
On Jan. 2 , 1971, he married Sherry Burnam.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Heather D?Leigh Meek of Aztec; his parents, Harley and Wanda Meek of Plainview; and one sister, Regina Edminston of Farmington, N.M.
Honorary pallbearers will be all American Agriculture Movement Members.
