Obituary

A memorial service for George D. McVicker, 75, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in College Heights Baptist Church with the Rev. Don Robertson, pastor, officiating. Cremation arrangements are by Kornerstone Funeral Directors. Mr. McVicker died 11:08 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 3, 2005, in Covenant Hospital Plainview. He was born Oct. 19, 1929, in Plainview, to John E. and Louise Duckwall McVicker. A lifetime resident of Plainview, he graduated from Plainview High School in 1949. Mr. McVicker married Elaine Ellis on Dec. 23, 1950, in Plainview. Until his retirement in 1990, he worked at Southwestern Public Service for 38 years as a journeyman in the transformer shop. After his retirement, he was a familiar face on the golf course at Plainview Country Club. Mr. McVicker was a member of College Heights Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife; two daughters and one son-in-law, Sheila K. and Forrest Turner of Lubbock and Stephanie Lindsey of Albuquerque, N.M.; two sons, John McVicker of Lubbock and George Dee McVicker of Plainview; two sisters, Kathryn Carlisle of Plainview and Dorothy Biggers of Terrell; one sister-in-law, Jennie McVicker of Muleshoe; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to College Heights Baptist Church Building Fund, 802, Quincy St., Plainview, TX 79072. Visitation will be from 6-8 tonight at Kornerstone Funeral Directors.
