Obituary

John Darrell McPherson, 74, of Plainview passed away at home on Tuesday, June 4, 2013. A graveside service to honor his life will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, June 7, 2013, at Plainview Cemetery. Hospice Chaplain Oscar Chavez will officiate. Funeral service arrangements are under the care of Lemons Funeral Home. Open visitation will begin at noon today, June 6, 2013, at the funeral home and will continue until 8 p.m. John was born on Aug. 6, 1938, in Milburn, Okla., to Henry and Fay (Meneley) McPherson. John served his nation for four years in the Air Force, and served as a fireman in Plainview for 16 years. He worked as a mechanic for Delton's Automotive for more than 40 years. John and Martha "Marty" Alcozer were married on Jan. 18, 1984, in Plainview. John loved gardening and working in his yard, taking great care of them. He collected Coca-Cola memorabilia, loved to read, and enjoyed woodworking, making wood crafts for around the home. John was a "big ol' teddy bear" who loved his family and was greatly loved in return. He will be deeply missed. John is survived by his wife Marty of Plainview; his children, Franky L. Cada of Plainview, Candida Saiz and her husband Manuel of Kerrville, Texas, Kris Diaz and his wife Cindy of Amarillo, and Terry Barber of Amarillo; 13 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and 11 brothers and sisters.
