Obituary

Services for Joe Leslie McMennamy, 83, of Midland will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church in Hale Center with the Rev. Jerry Don Cheshire of First United Methodist Church in Abernathy officiating. Burial will follow in Hale Center Cemetery by Freeman-Abell Funeral Home of Hale Center. Mr. McMennamy died Saturday, March 10, 2007, at Mabee Health Care Center in Midland. He was born July 1, 1923, in Dimmitt. He graduated from Hale Center High School in 1941. He was in the United States Coast Guard from 1941-44. He married Mary Rebecca Harris on Aug. 31, 1944, in Raleigh, N.C. They lived in Cotton Center where he was employed with Allen and Beach, Inc. until 1967. He lived in Virginia and Maryland before moving to Midland in 1981. He was employed at Midland College until his retirement. Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Louise and husband Dwayne McCollum of Midland; Teresa and husband Johnny Copeland of Perryton; Jo Ann Seabolt of Centreville, Va.; one sister, Jane McMurtrey of Big Spring; one brother, Jerry McMennamy of Amarillo; eight grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. A sister, Carlen Woelfel, died in 2005. The family suggests memorials to Methodist Children's Home in Waco, Mabee Center at Manor Park in Midland or Hospice of Midland. Visitation will be from 6-7:30 p.m. Monday?with family and friends at Freeman-Abell Funeral Home in Hale Center.
