Graveside services for Emma Rebecca McLemore will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Plainview Cemetery with the Rev. Travis Bennett, associate pastor of First United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial arrangements are by Bartley Funeral Home. Mrs. McLemore died Tuesday, July 13, 2004, in Covenant Hospital Plainview. She was born Nov. 11, 1909, in Munday, in Knox County to Andrew Taylor and Mabel Sanders Hamby. Her great-grandfather, Thomas A. Hamby, was one of the first settlers of Young County in the late 1850s. She grew up in Baylor and Archer counties after graduating from Megargel High School in 1929. She moved to Dilley where she married Charles J. McLemore on Oct. 15, 1942. He died Sept. 18, 1973. She moved to Plainview in 1954 and worked for F.W. Woolworth for 18 years until the store closed in 1972. In 1973, she began working for the downtown TG&Y store and finally the Yonkers Street TG&Y store, retiring in 1986 when it closed. She was an accomplished seamstress and quilter and enjoyed cooking and gardening. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Megargel. Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Jean and Craig Silverthorne of Plainview; one grandson, Jordan C. Silverthorne of Plainview; three sisters, Mrs. George (Mozelle) Richards of Mineral Wells, Ms. Marie Miller of Newcastle, and Mrs. Bill (Jean) Smith of DeSoto; one brother, Andrew W. Hamby of Fort Worth; nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband; five brothers, Marvin Hamby, R.A. Hamby, Edwin W. Hamby, Nolan K. Hamby and Glen G. Hamby; and a sister, Mrs. Richard (Jessie) Smith. The family suggests memorials to the Plainview Humane Society, First United Methodist Church Plainview or the Plainview Symphony.
