Obituary

Maria J. McKinney, 88, of Cheyenne, Wyo., died Wednesday, March 18, 2009, at the Davis Hospice Center in Cheyenne. Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 25, 2009, at Kornerstone Funeral Directors Chapel with the Rev. Roger Foote officiating. Burial will follow in Plainview Memorial Park under the direction of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. Mrs. McKinney was born July 2, 1920, in Freising, Bavaria, Germany, the youngest daughter of Johann and Magdalena (Reith) Mooser. She married Ray L. McKinney of Plainview, Texas, on Feb. 28, 1953, in Freising, Germany. She immigrated to the United States in 1955 and settled in Cheyenne after her husband's tour of duty ended in Korea. She went to work for the State of Wyoming in January 1956 and retired after 27 years of service in March 1983. Maria enjoyed knitting, crocheting and working in her garden. Mrs. McKinney is survived by her husband, Ray L. McKinney; her son, Gerry McKinney and wife, Mary; two grandchildren, Debra Gilbreath and husband, Todd, and Michael McKinney and wife, Jamie; six great-grandchildren, Hunter, Alexis, Brooklyn, Braxton, Justin and Jaycie, all of Plainview, Texas; and a nephew, Dietmar Steck of Freising, Germany.
