Funeral services for Eddie McConnell, 89, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Parkview Baptist Church with the Rev. Joe P. Weldon, retired Baptist minister, and the Rev. Don Noble, pastor, officiating.

Burial will be in Parklawn Memorial Gardens by Lemons Funeral Home.

Mr. McConnell died at 6:15 a.m. Tuesday, April 3, 2001, at his residence.

He was born April 28, 1911, in Childress where he grew up and graduated from high school in 1930. He moved to Plainview in 1958 and worked for The Plainview Daily Herald as circulation manager for several years.

He purchased Hillcrest Grocery in 1962, sold the grocery in 1972 and became manager of Allsup?s Convenience Store on 24th Street until 1976. He returned to The Herald as a carrier until 1989.

He was instrumental in attaining the commemorative Bob Wills postage stamp in 1992 through the U.S. Postal Service. He was a member of Parkview Baptist Church.

On Dec. 25, 1940, he married Alice Maydell Holtman in Hollis, Okla.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Robert Holtman McConnell of Dallas and Eddie Joe McConnell of Amarill; one daughter, Virginia ?Ginny? Cocanougher of Plano; one sister, Virginia VanBibber of Childress; and six grandchildren.

A brother, Walter ?Red? McConnell, and a sister, Ethel Redman, are deceased.

The family will receive friends from 6-8- today at the funeral home.
