McCarty, Maurice E.

Funeral services for Maurice E. McCarty, 78, were at 10 a.m. Tuesday in College Heights Baptist Church with the Rev. Don Robertson, pastor, and the Rev. Anthony Sisemore, pastor of First Baptist Church in Floydada, officiating.

Burial was in Parklawn Memorial Gardens by Lemons Funeral Home.

Mr. McCarty died at 8:25 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 14, 2003, at his residence.

He was born Sept. 1, 1925 in Lubbock. He moved to Littlefield at an early age and graduated from high school there in 1943. He worked in the Oakland shipyards building liberty ships from 1942-1944 and then moved to Shallowater and farmed. He moved to Edmonson in 1952 and farmed until retiring in 1983.

He was a member of College Heights Baptist Church, a deacon since 1954 and taught the Men's Sunday School Class for 53 years.

He was a member of Masonic Lodge #709.

On June 12, 1943, he married Mary G. James in Littlefield.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter and son-in-law, Paula and Ricky Sisemore of Plainview; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Ronald and Joan McCarty of Lubbock and Mike McCarty of Oklahoma City, Okla.; a brother, W.D. McCarty of Madera, Calif.; seven grandchildren, including Kimberly Myrick and Kristy Bechtold of Plainview; three step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren including Luke Myrick and Justin Bechtold of Plainview; and 13 step-great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials to College Heights Baptist Church.
