J.T. Mayhugh Died at Home Early Today; Has been Resident of This City During the Last Twenty-three Years
J.T. Mayhugh, 89, died this morning at 12:35 o?clock ah his home, 809 Baltimore street. He had been seriously ill since Wednesday night. Mr. Mayhugh has been a resident of Plainview since 1907.
He was born June 7, 1840, in Kentucky. He enlisted in the Union Army in Illinois and was wounded during the Civil War. At the close of the war, in 1865, Mr. Mayhugh removed to Missouri where he lived until he moved here.
He was united in marriage to Miss Laura V. West on April 19, 1871, in Chariton County, Mo. She was the daughter of Dr. and Mr.s J.W. West of that county. Mrs. Mayhugh survives him.
The following children also survive: J.W. Mayhugh and Miss Edna Mayhugh, Kansas City; L.T. Mayhugh, R.P. Mayhugh, Dr. N. B. Mayhugh, Mrs. T.B. Carter and Mrs. A.G. Hinn, all of Plainview.
He leaves one brother, also; O. A. Mayhugh, Rothville, Mo.
Mr. Mayhugh in his active days was a steward of the Methodist Church. Since coming here he has taken an interest in his farm and ranching enterprises.
The two children living in Kansas City are expected to reach Plainview tonight or early tomorrow. Funeral services will be conducted from the First Methodist Church, at 3:30 tomorrow afternoon. (Plainview Evening Herald, May 23, 1930)
