Elsie Young Maxey
Funeral services for Elsie Young Maxey, 89, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in First United Methodist Church Chapel with the Rev. Horace Abbott, pastor of Grace United Methodist Church, officiating.
Burial will be in the Plainview Cemetery by Wood-Dunning Funeral Home.
Mrs. Maxey died at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 17, 2004, in Covenant Hospital Plainview.
She was born March 4, 1915, in Plainview, the daughter of Sam Jackson and Maude Baughman Young. She grew up in the Cousins and Ellen communities and graduated from Plainview High School in 1932.
On Oct. 4, 1956, she married Leedy Maxey in Clovis, N.M. He was a former fire chief in Plainview and died Jan. 3, 1999.
Survivors include two sisters, Alama Y. Smith of Townsend, Ga., and Lois Y. Haggard Culp of Plainview; one brother, S.J. Young of Lubbock, seven nieces, Carol Ann Perkins of Cedar Creek, Sue Hudgins of Lubbock, Karen Smith Stewart of Townsend, Ga., Carolyn Haggard Condon of Austin, Pat Haggard Smith of Horsehoe Bay, Ann Young Nelson of Levelland and Sandra Young Waldred of Lubbock; two nephews, Jerry Young of Plainview and Kirk Smith of Dallas; one a great-nephew, Kelly Lynn Herod of Golden, Colo.
