Obituary

Christian services for Manuel R. Martinez, 56, of Lubbock, will be 1 p.m. today at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church with Father Andres Mendoza officiating. Interment will follow in the Abernathy Cemetery under the direction of Guajardo Funeral Chapels. Rosary was held on Sunday, Nov. 22, 2009 at 6 p.m. at Guadaulpe Church.

Manuel was born on June 17, 1953 in La Feria, Texas to Cornelio and Maria (Reyes) Martinez, and he passed away on Saturday, Nov. 21, 2009 at University Medical Center after a lengthy illness. Manuel was surrounded by his family and friends when he went home to our Heavenly Father. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Margaret Broaden.

Manuel was a graduate of Abernathy High School. On Feb. 28, 198, he married Josie Mu?oz in Lubbock. Manuel was so proud of his two children. He was an active member of Eucharistic, minister and usher for Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, and also a member of Knights of Columbus.

Arrangements are under the personal care of Guajardo Funeral Chapels.

The family suggests that memorials be made to Southwest Cancer Center, in lieu of flowers.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Cobos and the Southwest Cancer Center staff for all their dedicated efforts in caring for Manuel, along with the SICU staff at UMC for his most recent care.
