Obituary

Funeral Mass for Apolinar Martinez, 83, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in St. Isidore Catholic Church with the Rev. Timothy Judd officiating. Burial will be in Abernathy Cemetery by Abell Funeral Home. Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today in the same church. Mr. Martinez died Sunday, Nov. 28, 2004, at his residence. He was born Jan. 8, 1921, in Lamar, Colo. He moved to Abernathy in 1972 from the Cotton Center/Plainview areas of Hale County. He was a member of St. Isidore Catholic Church. In 1948, he married Frances Gomez. She died in 1959. Survivors include four sons, Richard G. Martinez of Luling, Trinidad G. Martinez of New Deal, Lorenzo G. Martinez of Amarillo and Joe L. Martinez of Abernathy; two daughters, Frances M. Asebedo of Esterville, Iowa and Catalina G. Rosales of Greeley, Colo.; two brothers, Tomas Martinez of Vilencia, Calif., and Gomisendo Martinez of Phoenix, Ariz.; 18 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
