Obituary

Robert "Bobby" Martin Jr., 78, of Plainview passed away on Sunday, March 16, 2014, in Lubbock. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today, March 19, 2014, at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jeff Taylor officiating. Burial will follow in Parklawn Memorial Gardens under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. Bobby was born on April 21, 1935, in Dalhart, Texas, to Robert O. and Evelyn Jones Martin. He married Mary Jane (Janie) Gordon at the First Presbyterian Church in Plainview on July 18, 1970. Bobby graduated from Dalhart High School in 1954 and continued his education at Colorado College in Colorado Springs, Colo., where he played football. He also attended West Texas State College and played football. Bobby graduated from the Texas Department of Public Safety and was a License and Weight trooper for 35 years stationed in Plainview. He was also a licensed irrigator and real estate broker. Bobby enjoyed his family, attending his grandchildren's activities and being with friends. He also enjoyed coaching Little League baseball and Tiger League football. He is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, John Scott Martin. Survivors include, his wife of 43 years, Janie; four children, Price Scott Martin and wife Bobbie of San Antonio, Texas, Stacy Martin Jeans and husband Jeff of Frisco, Texas, Dr. James Gordon Hansard and wife Jill of Tulsa, Okla., and Susan Hansard Jensen and husband Wade of Cathedral City, Calif.; eight grandchildren, Robert O. (Trey) Martin III and Jamie Ann Martin, Morgan Shea, Jordan Sloan, Madison Joy and Peyton Reese Urtso, and Hailey Elizabeth and Ryan James Hansard; six great-grandchildren, Raelynn Jensen, Austin Jensen, Katelynn, Jessica and Blake Francis and Jorden Jensen; one aunt; one cousin; two nieces; one nephew; and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Martin Oliver.
