Obituary

Funeral services for Bernice Martin, 91, of Petersburg will be at 10 a.m. today at First United Methodist Church in Petersburg with the Rev. Sharon Weise officiating. Burial will follow in Petersburg Cemetery under the direction of Abell Funeral Home and Flower Shop of Abernathy. Visitation was from 5-6:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Mrs. Martin died Saturday, Jan. 14, 2012, in Lockney. She was born March 24, 1920, in Sulfur Springs to Lonnie Marion and Jewel Rene Rodgers Anderson. She graduated from Becton High School and was a longtime resident of Kress and Petersburg. She married J.W. Martin on Feb. 28, 1940, in Petersburg. He died Aug. 6, 1998. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Petersburg. Survivors include five sons, James Martin of Levelland, Orville Martin, Jack Martin and Bennie Martin, all of Petersburg, and Lynn Martin of Bowie; two daughters, Jerry Ferguson of Petersburg and Jeannie Abbe of Ardmore, Okla.; one sister, Evelyn Wallace of Midland; 24 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; and 14 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Darla Bennett, in 2002 and two grandsons.
