Hale Pioneer J.P. Marlin, 86, Succumbs Here

J.P. Marlin, 86, died Wednesday morning at his home at 1403 Nassau Street. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church. Dr. Tim Funnell(?), pastor, will officiate. Interment will be in Plainview Cemetery. Lemons Funeral Home ahs charge of arrangements.

Mr. Marlin, a resident of Plainview of almost 60 years, was a retired farmer. A lover of the outdoors, he was active until the time of his unexpected death.

Jesse Preston Marlin, was born March 1, 1879, in Stephens County, son of a pioneer Texas family for whom the town of Marlin was named. He and Flora Allee Cox were married in Quanah Augu. 29, 1899. Mrs. Marlin died in March of 1945. Mr.a nd Mrs. Marlin made their home at the Nassau Street address for many years and Mr. Marlin continued residing there after his wife's death. They came ot Plainview in 1907.

Surviving are four daughters. Mrs. Jim Oswald, Mrs. Dyer Slaton and Mrs. Sam Curry, all of Plainview, and Mrs. J.L. Matlaock of Pampa; four sisters; Mrs. B.B. Brown of Dallas; Mrs. John Eckhart of Massillon, Ohion; Mrs. Ed Lovell. Tulsa, Okla., and Mrs. Ralph Lovett of Jay, Okla.; one brother, Volney Marlin of Quanah; eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. A brother, Jim Marlin, is deceased.

Volney Marlin and Mrs. Brown are among out of tonw trelatives who will attend the funeral services.
