Obituary
Vernon Edward Mapp, 85, of Lubbock died on Dec. 3, 2006, at the VistaCare Hospice facility at Carillon House. Visitation will be on Tuesday, Dec. 5 from 6-8 p.m. at Resthaven Funeral Home. Funeral services will be on Wednesday, Dec. 6 at 2 p.m. at College Heights Baptist Church in Plainview with Pastor Don Robertson officiating. Burial will follow at Plainview Cemetery. Vernon Mapp was born on July 19, 1921, in Retrop, Okla., to Claude Franklin Mapp and Viola Violet Cagle Mapp. He graduated from Port, Oklahoma High School in 1939. He farmed in Oklahoma until he joined the Merchant Marines in 1942 and served until the end of World War II. In 1952, Vernon married Trannie Ruth Sanders in Hammond, Okla. They moved to Texas in 1957, where he farmed for one year at Cotton Center and 34 years at Hart. He retired in 1992 and moved to Plainview, where he lived until January 2005 when he moved to Lubbock. His parents and one brother, Stanley Mapp, precede him in death. Vernon's survivors include his wife, Trannie Mapp of Lubbock; three daughters, Jana and Frank McCoy of Lubbock, Teresa and Ricky Cavitt of Brownwood, and Mary Kaye Mapp of Amarillo. He is also survived by two grandchildren, Canaan Cavitt and Jordan Cavitt of Brownwood.
