Obituary

Funeral services for Melvin Mahagan, 79, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Carroll Green and the Rev. Elias Moralez officiating. Burial will be in Hale Center Cemetery by Abell Funeral Home of Hale Center. Visitation will be from 6:30-8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Mr. Mahagan died Monday, Oct. 27, 2008, at his residence. He was born Feb. 16, 1929, in Lubbock. He moved to Hale Center in 1952. He married Ruby Cagle on Feb. 4, 1972, in Morton. He farmed in the Sterley, Lockney, Petersburg, Providence and Hale Center areas. He was a member Young Farmers Association, Belles & Beaux Square Dance Club, Happy Hearts Round Dance and First United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife of Hale Center; two sons and two daughters-in-law, Leslie and Joan Mahagan of Braintree, Mass., and Roger and Linda Mahagan of Hale Center; one stepdaughter and stepson-in-law, Debbie and Joe Stokes of Plano; one stepson, Steve Overman of Houston; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. His son, Alan Mahagan; grandson, Keith Alan Mahagan; and two brothers, L.G. Mahagan and Richard Mahagan, are deceased. The family suggests memorials to Hospice of Lubbock, Hale Center Cemetery or First United Methodist Church of Hale Center.
