Obituary

John Lyles, 91, of Hale Center, passed away on Thursday, May 1, 2014, in Plainview. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 3, 2014, at First United Methodist Church Hale Center with the Rev. Jimmy Cameron officiating. Burial will follow in Hale Center Cemetery under the directions of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. A family visitation will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. today, May 2, 2014, at the funeral home. John was born on June 16, 1922, to Carl and Ruth Lyles in Floyd County. He married Christine on Dec. 17, 1943, in Floydada. He has been a lifelong farmer, farming in Hale County for 70 years. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and traveled with Floydada Whirlwind Sams Travel Club. He is survived by his wife Christine of Hale Center; two daughters, Linda Spangler of Waco, Texas, and Nada Rogers of China, Texas; two sons, Glenn Lyles of Plainview and Don Lyles of Rocklin, Calif.; six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Olen Lyles, Marvin Lyles and Floyd Lyles; and two sisters, Rena Baxter and Marge Jones McElyea.
