Obituary

Funeral services for Blake Lyde, 89, of Petersburg, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 16, 2004, in Main Street Church of Christ with Owen Carr and Doyle Gilliam officiating. Interment will follow in the Petersburg Cemetery under direction of Lemons Funeral Home of Plainview. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4:30-7 p.m. today. Mr. Lyde passed away on Monday, Dec. 13, 2004, in Lubbock. He was born July 13, 1915, in Childress County, to Ernest and Hattie Blake Lyde. He received his bachelor's degree from West Texas State University and his Master of Arts in Education from Texas Tech University. He served his country in World War II in the Navy. Blake was an educator and administrator for 42 years, working in the Dodson, Frenship and Petersburg school districts. He married Ruth Burk on July 3, 1937, in Canyon. He was a member of the Main Street Church of Christ. Blake is survived by his wife; a daughter, Lynette Truitt of Georgetown; two sons, Larry Lyde of Petersburg and Melton Lyde of Westminster, Colo.; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Julia Covey of Sweetwater and Betty McGough of Lubbock; and a brother, Bill Lyde of Carrollton. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Diane Ruth Lyde; his parents; a sister, Jewel Tratham; and a brother, Noble Lyde.
