Obituary
Memorial services for Charles E. Lutrick, 85, of Lubbock, will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 10, 2007, in the First United Methodist Church, Lubbock. Dr. Jay Horton, Dr. Robert C. Monk (brother-in-law), Chaplain Jeff Matsler (grandson), and Rev. Keith Wiseman will officiate. Reception follows in the parlor. Family graveside services were held in the Strip/Pearce Chapel Cemetery under the direction of Abell Funeral Home of Abernathy.
Mr. Lutrick died Thursday, Dec. 6, 2007, in Lubbock.
He was born on July 19, 1922, to T.E. and Mabel (Pipkin) Lutrick, in Hale County. He married Ruth Monk on Sept. 5, 1943, in Lubbock.
He had attended the Lakeview Community Schools prior to graduating from Abernathy High School in 1940 and Texas Tech University in 1945. He earned his Master of Divinity from Perkins School of Theology at SMU in 1949 and in 1968 he was awarded an Honorary Doctorate Degree from McMurry College.
He served churches in Vega, Baird, Floydada, and St. John's Methodist Church in Lubbock and Midland. He also served as Executive Secretary of the Northwest Texas Annual Conference of the Methodist Church Board of Education, and District Superintendent of the Amarillo District. He retired in Midland in 1988. After his retirement, he served on the staff at the First United Methodist Church in Lubbock. He served as a Delegate to the General Conference for seven sessions and served on other general boards. Mr. Lutrick had been a member of the Rotary Clubs in Floydada and Midland and had served as President for both organizations. He also served as a Trustee at SMU in previous years.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth Lutrick of Lubbock; a daughter, Linda Matsler and husband Gary of Floydada; and two sons, David Lutrick and wife Anne of Seattle, Wash. and Charles Clay "Chuck" Lutrick of Columbus, Ohio. He is also survived by two brothers, Lewis Lutrick and wife Mary of Abernathy and Harvey Lutrick and wife Faye of Lubbock; two sisters, Ann McCune and husband Harold of Abernathy and Belle Baker and husband Jack of Dayton; five grandchildren, Chaplain (Capt.) Jeff Matsler, Mindy Vaughan, Lara and Erin Lutrick and Marta Lutrick; and three great-grandchildren, Mary Elizabeth Matsler, Charles Taylor Matsler and Alexander Vaughan.
