Lloyd spent his high school years in Plainview, graduating from PHS in 1938. Many will re-member him as a member of that all-state basketball team. After graduation, Mr. Lovvorn earned a full scholarship in both football and basketball from West Texas State College in Canyon. Following a severe accident during practice, Lloyd transferred to McMurry where he played basketball his freshman year. He returned home to Plainview and married Earlene Cure of Hale Center in 1941. After the Pearl Harbor attack, Lloyd volunteered in the United States Navy and was assigned duty in the Pacific Theater with the Seabees. He elevated to the rank of chief petty officer and was given an honorable discharge after the war ended. Untile 1997, the Lovvorns lived in Riverside, Calif., where he was employed in construction for more than 30 years. They moved to Clovis, N.M., where Earlene preceded him in death. Lloyd was later moved to a nursing home in Jacksonville to be near family. Lloyd is survived by one sister, Mrs. Oscar (Doris) Wylie of Dimmitt; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Weldon (Carol) Lovvorn; and a host of nieces and nephews. Mr. Lovvorn was preceded in death by his wife, Earlene Cure Lovvorn; two brothers, Russell of Englewood, Calif., and Weldon of Claytonville; and one sister, Nadine Allen Gifford of Gulfport, Miss. Mr. Lovvorn passed away Tuesday, Aug.21, 2007, in Jacksonville, Texas. Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 8, 2007, at Plainview Cemetery with Dean Wiseman of Dimmitt officiating.
