Obituary

Dovie D. Long, 88, of Plainview, passed away on Tuesday, April 22, 2014. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 26, 2014, in Lemons Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow in Plainview Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Friday, April 25, 2014, at the funeral home. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Lemons Funeral Home of Plainview. Mrs. Long was born on June 8, 1925, to the late Thomas O. and Kitty (Belyeu) Downey in Coleman, Texas. She married Garland Long on April 7, 1943, in Plainview, and he preceded her in death on Jan. 5, 1989. Mrs. Long loved to garden, but most of all she was a very devout Democrat, where she served as Secretary of the Democratic party of Hale County. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church of Plainview. She is preceded in death by her husband, one son Dan Long, and 11 siblings. Those left to cherish her memory are one daughter Lawana Barrall; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
