Obituary
Alma Beth Lipscomb, 80, of Plainview passed away Dec. 21, 2009, at her residence. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 26, 2009, at College Heights Baptist Church with the Rev. Don Robertson, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow at Plainview Memorial Park under the direction of Lemons Funeral Home. Beth was born May 23, 1929, to Robert Milton and Ruby Mitchell in Roberts County. She graduated from Plainview High School in 1946 and attended Wayland Baptist University from 1947 to 1948 where she played on the first women's basketball team that later was named the Flying Queens. During her time at Wayland she met and later married Charles L. Lipscomb on Aug. 8, 1948, in Plainview. He died June 11, 2004. She worked for Coronado Jr. High from 1966 to 1994 as a library aide and later as secretary to the principal. She worked in Special Olympics for 10 years and volunteered for her church's youth group for more than 12 years. Beth loved to sew and paint and was a longtime member at College Heights Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband; one daughter, Sherry Lipscomb; and two brothers, Carroll Foster Mitchell and John Ruben Mitchell. She is survived by two sons, Dirk Mitchell Lipscomb of Plainview and Charles Shane Lipscomb of San Jose, Calif.; one daughter, Georgia Smith of Hewitt; seven grandchildren, Jennifer Lipscomb, Jerome Smith, Jarrett Smith, Ty Long, Jade Lipscomb, Isabella Lipscomb and Tristen Lipscomb; and eight great-grandchildren.
