Obituary

Funeral services for Charles L. Lipscomb, 82, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in College Heights Baptist Church with the Rev. Don Robertson, pastor, officiating, assisted by Dr. Jim DeWese. Burial will be in Plainview Memorial Park by Lemons Funeral Home. Mr. Lipscomb died at 9:55 p.m. Friday, June 11, 2004, in Covenant Hospital Plainview. He was born March 19, 1922, in Bridal Bit, near Turkey, and married Alma Beth Mitchell on Aug. 22, 1947, in Plainview. He attended Wayland where he played basketball and received his master's degree from Texas Tech. He was a longtime teacher and coach at Coronado Junior High and Ash Elementary. He was a member of College Heights Baptist Church and the YMCA. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Georgia Martha Lipscomb of Hewitt; two sons, Dirk Mitchell Lipscomb of Plainview and Charles Shane Lipscomb of San Jose, Calif.; a sister, Lois Louise Weatherly of Lake Kiowa; six grandchildren, Jerome Smith, Jarrett Smith, Jennifer Lipscomb, Jade Lipscomb, Isabella Lipscomb and Ty Long; and five great-grandchildren, Shawn Lipscomb, Madison Lipscomb, Cameron Garza, Taylor Smith and Kaela Smith A daughter, Sherry Loraine Lipscomb; one brother; and five sisters are deceased. The family will receive visitors from 6-8 p.m. Monday at Lemons Funeral Home and suggest memorials to College Heights Baptist Church Benevolence Fund.
