Obituary

Funeral Services for Alice M. Lewis, 90, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Grace United Methodist Church with the Rev. Horace Abbott, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Plainview Memorial Park by Lemons Funeral Home. Mrs. Lewis died Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2006, at Covenant Hospital Plainview after a brief illness. She was born July 11, 1916, in Bell County to Warner L. Reeves and Edna Owensby Reeves. She was raised in the Heidenheimer community and attended school at Heidenheimer. She married Dwight L. Lewis on Feb. 28, 1934, in Bell County. He died July 13, 1990. During their early marriage years, they farmed in the Temple area before moving to Hale County in 1948 where they were engaged in farming in the Edmonson community. Mrs. Lewis managed the PX at the Veteran's Hospital in Temple during WWII. After their move to Edmonson, she was a full-time homemaker. Mrs. Lewis was a member of the Northwest Extension Club for many years. She also was an active member of the Valley View Methodist Church until it closed in 1972. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church. She is preceded in death by her brothers, Arthur Reeves and W.L. Reeves, and her sister, Ruth Reeves Taylor. The family would like to thank Mrs. Lewis' friend and caregiver, Jerri Bolles, for her loving attention and care. Mrs. Lewis is survived by her daughter, Beth Andrews and husband, Gerald, of Lubbock; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Retha Aven Hunnicutt and husband, Jim, of Midland, Brett Aven and wife, Sandra, and their son, Chance, of Plainview, Matt Aven and wife, Stormie, and their children, Brandon and Brittany, of Lubbock; and stepgrandchildren, Sheree Boyd, Sammy Andrews, Scott Andrews, Shane Andrews and Staci Claire. She is also survived by her sister, Electa Reeves LaGrone of Springdale, Ark., and her sisters-in-law, Naomi Lewis Moore and Ruth Lewis Moore, both of Temple; and several nieces and nephews. The family requests memorials be made to Grace United Methodist Church in Plainview.
