Obituary

HALE CENTER - Barnie Weaver Lewis, 80, who came to Hale Center in 1926, died at 10:25 a.m. Tuesday in Hi-Plains Hospital here. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in First Baptist Church here. Officiating will be the Rev. Carrol Green, pastor, assisted by the Rev. Joe Goforth, pastor of Primitive Baptist Church. Masonic graveside services and burial will follow in Parklawn Memorial Gardens directed by Freeman Funeral Home of Hale Center. A retired plumber, Mr. Lewis came to Hale Center from Vernon. He was married to Artie Frances (Jack) Powell Oct. 20, 1923 in Vernon. Mr. Lewis was born March 6, 1896 in Terrell. Mr. Lewis was a 32nd degree Mason, a 50-year memer of the Lemond Lodge here, a Shriner and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. A World War I veteran, he was a member of the American Legion and First Baptist Church. Surviving are his widow; a son, Bobbie Joe Lewis of Fairfax, VA; two daughters, Mrs. Nina Ruth Landers of Portales, NM and Mrs. Barbara June Bain of Perryton; a sister, Mrs. Emma Vandiver of Redmond, OR; a half-brother, Ben Lewis of Dallas; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
